Plainsmen Swept by NMJC Despite Great Pitching
[BORGER – March 27, 2022]
The Plainsmen hosted New Mexico JC for a 4-game series this weekend at Plainsmen Park.
New Mexico JC Thunderbirds came into the weekend with the nations highest scoring offense. In Game 1 on Friday, Rijnaldo Euson took the bump and threw an absolute gem. He was able to strike out 11 Thunderbird hitters in 5 innings of work. The Plainsmen offense could not find timely hitting with runners in scoring position as they were blanked in the run column.
Game 2 saw another masterful pitching performance, this time by Kelvin Roman. He went 6 scoreless innings before turning things over to the bullpen. Both offenses came alive late each scoring 2 runs in the 9th to give us extra baseball on the day. The Thunderbirds prevailed in the top of the 10th scoring one more run giving them the sweep on the day.
In Game 3, the Plainsmen offense came out on fire early with Zalewski driving in the first run of the game in the 1st. New Mexico would respond and explode for five multi-run innings. Although the Plainsmen would battle back with a 5-run inning, it would not be enough to overcome the Thunderbirds. Unfortunate hitting proved to be the factor as the Plainsmen had the bases loaded twice.
With Game 4, the Plainsmen were trying to avoid. The sweep of the series. The Plainsmen dug an early hole with giving up a 4-run 1st inning. Again, untimely hitting proved to be the downfall as the Plainsmen were only able to bring 1 run across, thanks to Cade Zalewski. Plainsmen pitching was yet again a bright spot for the weekend as they allowed the team to remain in close games.
The Plainsmen are back in action for a midweek game as they travel to Liberal, KS to take on Seward County Community College on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3 pm CDT. Follow along with Gamechanger.
