Opening Day 2022
[BORGER – January 27, 2022]
Opening Day 2022 is upon us!
The Plainsmen Baseball team are excited to kick things off this weekend as they head to Richland College for a 3-game set this weekend in Dallas, TX.
After the long fall season and the eternity that Winter Break feels like Interim Head Coach Chad Brown is ready to put this team on the field. Chad Brown takes on this season with the interim tag as former head coach Jake Welch took a job at Davidson College. Chad Brown, however, does not lack the experience that the interim tag may imply. Brown has been on the Plainsmen staff for 3 years prior to this as well as playing here for his 2 years of collegiate career. He then transferred to West Texas A&M where he ended up winning a gold glove for the Buffs. The coaching staff is rounded out with pitching coach Kyle Tinius entering his second year on staff and a fellow teammate with Brown at WTAMU, followed by Brett Esau entering his first season and a former Plainsmen as well.
The Plainsmen offense will look to be very well rounded with contact and speed as well as power throughout the lineup. They hit 71 homers and scored 448 runs last year averaging over 8 runs a game as an offense. Hopefully getting out of the cold snow this weekend heading to Dallas will be beneficial to the Plainsmen bats.
The first game of the year will be Friday, January 28th with opening pitch at 2 PM. The game on Friday will be a 9-inning contest followed by a 7-inning double header Saturday.
