Frank Phillips College Rodeo turned in another strong performance this past weekend at the Western Texas College Rodeo, highlighted by a big-time achievement from freshman standout Addison Pecha.
Addison led the way for the Plainsmen, earning Reserve All-Around Cowgirl honors after putting together an impressive weekend in both barrel racing and goat tying. Addison qualified for the Championship Short Round in barrel racing and stayed consistent across the board, placing 6th in the long round with a 14.20 and improving to a 14.11 in the short round to finish 6th overall. Combined with her performance in goat tying, it was enough to secure a top individual honor in the rodeo.
The FPC men's team also had solid performances. Freshman bull rider Wyatt Bowman made a strong run by covering his bull and earning a 78-point ride. That score placed him 5th in both the long round and overall, qualifying him for the Championship Short Round and keeping him in the mix for a spot at the College National Finals Rodeo later this year. In team roping, freshman heeler Benzoin Tipton showed promise with a clean run that would have advanced him further, but a penalty on the run kept him out of the final standings.
On the women's side, the Plainsmen dominated the goat-tying event. Freshman Gracie Anderson captured the long round title with a quick 6.3-second run, while Kendra Deskovick turned in one of the most consistent performances of the weekend. She placed 3rd in both rounds and finished 3rd in the aggregate, which keeps her sitting in a strong position in the regional standings. Other contributors in the event included Ashten Stanton and Addison Pecha, both finishing among the top competitors.
The women's team finished 3rd as a group, right behind Texas Tech University and South Plains College, showing just how competitive FPC continues to be at every stop.
With momentum building, Frank Phillips College Rodeo now sets its sights on the next stop in Big Spring for the Howard College Rodeo, where they'll build on another successful weekend.
