Lady Plainsmen Use Strong Pitching and Sound Hitting to Sweep Garden City
[BORGER – March 20, 2022]
The Lady Plainsmen hosted the Garden City Broncbusters today at Johnson Park. First pitch was slated at 12 PM CDT.
The Lady Plainsmen came out strong in the 1st inning scoring 4 runs after holding Garden City scoreless. They were able to capitalize on early errors from the Broncbusters. The next time we would see a run would be in the 4th inning from Garden City, and they would score another one in the 5th making the score 4-2. In the bottom half of the inning the Plainsmen added on 3 more pushing their lead to 7-2. Garden City was trying to mount a rally scoring a run in the top of the 7th but today’s winning pitcher, Amber Poorbaugh would shut the door.
The Lady Plainsmen entered game 2 of the double header trying to sweep Garden City on the day. Both teams came out swinging scoring a run a piece in the 1st inning. The Lady Plainsmen were able to settle in behind Game 2 winning pitcher, Karla Banegas and hold the Broncbusters to only the 1 run. They also were able to swing the bats as they were jumping on pitches early in counts. The Lady Plainsmen scored 2 in the 2nd, and 1 in the 3rd and 4th bringing the lead to 5-1. This score would remain for the final 2 and a half innings as the Lady Plainsmen were able to get the brooms out and sweep Garden City
The Lady Plainsmen saw Gabby Geiselhardt and Yessenia Pena hit doubles and each had an RBI in game 1. Both hitters kept swinging in game 2 with Pena going deep and Geiselhardt earning another double. Christian Moyers and Kyla Bonnarens both earned a double also. Moyers earned 2 RBIs in game 2 joined by Geiselhardt, Pena and Bonnarens earning 1 a piece. Game 1 winning pitcher, Amber Poorbaugh, went the distance as she struck out 7 Broncbusters. Game 2 winner, Karla Banegas, saw the same result and she fanned 5 Broncbusters on the way to the win.
The Lady Plainsmen will be back in action at home on Friday and Saturday as they open up conference play with a 4-game set with Western Texas College. The games will be livestreamed, and you can always follow the play by play on Gamechanger.
