Softball Opening Day 2022

The Lady Plainsmen Softball program is set for their season opener!

The Lady Plainsmen were hoping to open the 2022 season here at home last week, but due to the snow, they had to wait an extra week and now must hit the road to begin their season against a tough Vernon college team.

In her second season leading this program, Head Coach Estrella Guardiola is ready to get started. Coming into year 2 she is excited to see the growth of her returners and let the freshman recruits show their skill on the field. Guardiola welcomes two new coaches to her staff after one assistant moved on to a head coaching stint in California and the other joining a top-level Division 2 staff. The first addition is Cesar Romero coming from El Paso, TX. Cesar has experience in this league on the baseball side as he led the El Paso Baseball program in previous years. The second addition is Emily Martinez of Waco, TX who joins the staff in her first season of coaching.

The Lady Plainsmen welcome back 6 returners from last years program which saw extremely competitive series against tough WJCAC teams. The returners have been putting in the work over the summer and into the fall where they welcomed 8 freshman who instantly brought added talent and who were hungry to get to work. The lineup looks to stack up well with speed and power with a good defense and good pitching.

The first matchup at Vernon will be a great first test as Vernon is a usual ranked team in the nation and is bringing back a majority of last years roster who cracked the top 10 rankings in the nation.
