Bio

Turiya Coleman joins the Frank Phillips College softball staff as an Assistant Coach for the 2025–26 season. A versatile and accomplished athlete, Coleman brings elite playing experience from some of the nation’s top programs, including the University of Oklahoma, University of Houston, and Baylor University.

She began her collegiate career at Oklahoma as a freshman, where she was part of the 2022 National Championship team and recorded her first collegiate hit, run, and RBI with the Sooners. She later transferred to the University of Houston, where she quickly became one of the most consistent and dynamic players in the program’s history. In 2023, she led the team with a .397 batting average, broke the single-season on-base percentage record (.503), and delivered multiple grand slams. She followed that with another standout season in 2024, hitting .374 with 46 RBIs and earning NFCA All-Region Second Team and All-Big 12 Second Team honors. Coleman then transferred to Baylor University for her senior season, where she continued her strong performance at the plate and in the field. Starting at both third base and catcher, she posted a .388 batting average with 11 doubles and 18 RBIs through 37 games, solidifying her place as a key contributor in the Bears' lineup.

Off the field, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston in Liberal Studies with minors in Health Psychology and Nutrition, and went on to complete her master’s degree in Sport Pedagogy at Baylor University.

As a coach, Coleman believes in building a foundation of trust, discipline, and purpose. Her philosophy centers on strong relationships, attention to fundamentals, and developing the whole athlete—physically, mentally, and emotionally. She leads with high standards and a heart for mentorship, encouraging growth through both success and adversity. Grounded in faith and character, she strives to create an environment where athletes feel valued, challenged, and inspired to lead with confidence beyond the field.
