Gina Fontanez Wins Offensive Player of the Year
Gina Fontanez has been named the Offensive Player of the Year for Region V of the WJCAC
Frank Phillips College's standout outside hitter, Gina Fontanez, has been named the Offensive Player of the Year for Region V of the WJCAC, recognizing her dominant season for the Lady Plainsmen Volleyball team. Fontanez has been a key leader on the court all year, helping drive the Lady Plainsmen to one of their most successful seasons in recent history.
Her explosive attacking ability, consistent scoring, and high volleyball IQ set her apart from opponents across the conference. Fontanez played a vital role in keeping Frank Phillips nationally ranked throughout the season and leading the team to key wins against top-20 opponents.
This honor caps off an outstanding year for both Fontanez and the Lady Plainsmen program, highlighting the hard work and determination that defined their season. We talked to Gina this afternoon, and she had this to say about winning the award: "My first year at FPC has taught me a lot about teamwork, discipline, and believing in myself. Winning Offensive Player of the Year is such an honor, and I am so grateful for my teammates and coaches who helped me get here. This is only my first step, and I can't wait to see how far I go."
Gina had some great stats this season, including: 258 total digs, 33 total blocks, 3.25 kills per set, 270 overall kills, and a hitting percentage of .217.
